Two nights stay here just isn't enough. The rooms are faboulous, fashioned as though inspired by boats and marinas (which indeed they are as the location is right beside a beautiful marina with awesome boats). The rooms are modern, huge, beamed with wood and have gorgeous views over either the marina or the central oasis-style grounds and pool. We had nibbles in the bar and it was kind of nice that at 7pm children are barred, making the bar a properly grown-up zone, for gentle drinks and nibbles accompanied by what mostly seem to be live cheesy jazz/blue combos. I liked this! But would love to go back in-season when the hotel's very own concert venues hosts proper big-name artists (Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin...) And the location is great - San Diego old town, Sea World etc just minutes away.
Easy access to everything, including a moonlight walk along the bay. All the ammenities with a big plus for us being a wonderful, hopping, lounge. We truly enjoyed ending our touristy days with a drink and dance at the lounge. They had live bands, blues bands, every night we were there, and each gave energy and life to the place. The hotel is great, but the lounge will bring us back.
We spent six nights here in December - got their standard king guest room facing the parking lot, a little bit of road noise during the daytime, but quiet at night because the traffic to Shelter island drops off. The property is well-kept, nicely landscaped. Lovely pool and hot tub, waterfalls and koi pond in the garden interior. We had a refrigerator and microwave in the room and mixed up sangria and sat on the viewing platforms overlooking the interior Shelter Island harbor several evenings - very serene, beautiful sunsets (going down behind Point Loma). King bed was comfortable. Quite a few good restaurants in walking distance. Had a fantastic Christmas Day buffet at Humphrey's Restaurant onsite - best buffet we've ever eaten - many fresh seafood entrees and fresh-squeezed orange juice in the mimosas (included in meal price). Great location overall - easy to get to Cabrillo National Monument, Point Loma/Sunset Cliffs, Mission Bay; short drive to downtown,Coronado Island, Zoo and Old Town. Easy access to freeway to get up to La Jolla and Torrey Pines. Also lovely to stroll through Shelter Island park and walkway along marina and bay. They also offer free bikes for two-hour use.
A friend and I stayed for three nights at the resort and can hardly wait to stay again. It is beautiful, restful, and they treat you well. It is clean, quiet, and the views are amazing. We got a great deal too. And from the hotel itself. No booking company needed. The you will love it.
Humphreys is very ideally located in San Diego for someone looking for a great getaway. It's close enough to the airport that they offer a free shuttle service (and E. (Elliot I think?) has fantastic recommendations for you on the ride there), but still nestled away enough that you don't feel like you're in the middle of a city - yet everything is still close by. It was perfect for me because I did not want to be near hundreds of tourists with kids going to SeaWorld and the zoo - I just wanted a peaceful vacation.
I travelled with my handicap step-mom and they were very polite and accommodating for her - so thank you to all the staff for their help with that! You can honestly tell that the staff love their jobs and I cannot emphasize enough how much I felt like I was at an island resort instead of being boxed in at a cookie cutter hotel.
For rooms, I recommend getting one that is towards the pier, and the suites looked amazing. I was on a budget though and stayed in a regular room. Despite the price (super cheap), the room was still very spacious, and included all the amenities that a traveler needs there for a 4 night stay. A little older, more noticeably in the bathrooms but the SUPER comfortable beds completely made up for it!
All in all, I am completely glad I read these review - it helped me make the decision and I strongly recommend others to book with Humphrey's also! Hint - I got a great deal with Expedia, couldn't find any with orbitz or bookit with Humphrey's.
Amazing waterview suites are HUGE! The biggest in town!! Great property, Great Restaurant, From the grounds to the staff. AAA++++ Every time! and a perfect distance from the downtown craziness!!
We were very pleased by the Humphrey's Half Moon Inn. We picked this hotel because of the good reviews on TripAdvisor and were happy that we agreed with other reviewers. The location is on Shelter Island, and our room was not on the bay side, but on the parking lot side. We were OK with this as each morning when we left our room, we had a gorgeous view of the sun coming up and downtown area lit up. We spent quite a few times walking down the stretch of the island and the view of downtown at all hours of the day is stunning. It was fun to see the boats coming and going from the dock. The room itself was very clean, spacious and nice. We had a little patio on the ground floor and it was nice with the two chairs and tables to sit out and have a beer at night. The room came with a big flat screen TV and microwave/refrigerator. The main facilities and parking lot was very clean and maintained. Also, the lush foliage was gorgeous. The location was great also, close to freeways and within 10 minutes you can get to anywhere in the city (Ocean Beach, North Park, South Park, etc). The parking was $10 a night, that was the only thing I was not previously aware of. Would glady stay here again and recommend to friends and family.
We have stayed at this hotel a couple time and have loved it. We stayed there for our wedding in the Grand Maria Suite and it was so comfortable family frendly with a full kitchen and dining room with a table that seats 8. Our wedding photos turned our wonderful. We also enjoyed free Santana coverband concert during our stay. Cant say enough great things about this hotel.
We found this wonderful hotel several years ago, and have been back many times. Not a typical high rise hotel, more of a nostalgic polynesian feel hotel/motel. Fantastic room service. Great views of harbor, easy location to all San Diego has to offer.
We stayed here for one night as a bit of a treat on our 4 week journey around California. We were not disappointed. We arrived early for check in, the receptionist informed us unforutnately she did not have the room we had booked available at the time so upgraded us to a tropical room!
The room was absolutely beautiful, the sheets were soft. It was all very clean. We did struggle getting our 50lb suitcases up the slightly rickety steps but it was worth the climb.
We spent the afternoon the pool which again was simply fantastic although we were a little confused by the minute towels!
We dined in the restaurant in the evening. Fantastic views of the marina and the food was beautiful and not too extortionately priced. Service was excellent. Popped into the bar next door for a cocktail or two after.
We ordered breakfast room service to dine by the pool the following morning - very luxurious and good food!
I would recommend this hotel to anyone and would defintiely go back if I was in San Diego again.
