Most Anticipated New San Diego Openings For 2023

San Diego is one of the most exciting cities on Earth. While our abundant natural beauty, beachside location and mild year-round climate are all big draws, there’s also no end of amazing things to do. Between our world-famous theme parks, museums, can’t-miss foodie stops and endless entertainment, you’ll never have to look far to find memorable experiences. Even so, “America’s Finest City” is forever reinventing itself, offering all-new ways to enjoy everything Southern California has to offer. Here’s a closer look at some of the most anticipated new openings in San Diego for 2023 — for locals and visitors alike.

Cocina 35 (2.2 miles)

The Mexican brunch experts at beloved Cocina 35 will be engaging in a bit of expansion come 2023. We’re most excited about their newest location at nearby Liberty Station, set to open later this year inside the former Soda & Swine. Known citywide for their best-in-town chilaquiles, Cocina 35’s “build-your-own” brunches are the stuff of legend around here — and for good reason. This location also plans to offer lunch, as well as full bar service.

Malibu Farm (5.3 miles)

Seaport Village will welcome San Diego’s first location of renowned farm-to-table restaurant Malibu Farm in 2023. Malibu Farm was famously begun by chef Helene Henderson as a backyard grab-and-go serving only local and organic fare in its namesake beachfront town, quickly becoming a must-stop in the area. It hasn’t strayed from its roots in the years since. The San Diego stop is slotted for summer ‘23, and will operate at the site of the former Harbor House.

San Diego may be well-known as a warm, sunny paradise, but 2023 will be bringing a breath of fresh, cool air to SeaWorld’s thrill ride lineup. The brand-new Arctic Rescue Coaster brings a completely fresh experience unlike any the park has ever seen. Guests will hop astride a lightning-fast snowmobile-style seat, strap in, and white-knuckle their way through some of the most pulse-pounding twists and turns in the park’s history.

The Gaslamplighter (5.8 miles)

Karaoke is making a big post-pandemic comeback. Would-be stars from every walk of life are once again relegating everyone with their dulcet tones and vocal stylings. The team behind the Mission Hills singers’ stop The Lamplighter is opening a second location in the Gaslamp Quarter in 2023. The Gaslamplighter is destined to become the new hotspot, thanks to their goal of elevating karaoke night with an elegant, art-deco cocktail lounge atmosphere.

Le Coq (12.6 miles)

San Diego’s own celebrity chef — “Top Chef” finalist Brian Malarkey — will be coming full circle this year. He’s once again assumed ownership of his former La Jolla restaurant Herringbone (which he had previously sold four years ago), and will be rebooting it as Le Coq. This new concept is being touted as a “French-inspired” steakhouse. Expect timeless fare like escargot, chateaubriand and European-inspired salads rounding out the menu. Le Coq is expected to open sometime in summer 2023.

MINILAND at LEGOLand California (33.6 miles)

LEGOLand California is a must-stop family destination. Thrill rides, live shows, and larger-than-life displays of brick-based art have delighted families here for more than two decades. In 2023, LEGOLand will be thinking big — by getting small. LEGO’s master model builders are hard at work creating scale-model versions of prominent San Diego landmarks for the brand-new MINILAND USA area, scheduled to début in the spring.

Hart House (34.5 miles)

Actor and comedian-turned restaurateur Kevin Hart will be bringing the first location of his vegan eatery Hart House to San Diego in 2023. Hart House offers classic fast food-style fare like burgers, crispy nuggets, hot fries and shakes — all 100% meatless, and absolutely delicious. Hart House has been immensely popular just up the road in Los Angeles, so San Diego’s meat-free eaters have been looking forward to this ribbon-cut.
