San Diego Events Are Making a Comeback

No matter what neighborhood you’re in or what time of year it is, there’s always something fun to do in San Diego. And after dealing with a tough few years of either canceling or rescheduling the most looked-forward-to goings-on, the San Diego events calendar is poised to stage a return to form in 2022. Here’s the low-down on all the biggest and best events coming back to the area in 2022.

San Diego Museum Month (February)

February may only have 28 days in 2022, but the San Diego Museum Council is going to see to it that every day is packed full of learning, enlightenment, and fun. Countless area museums, zoos, aquariums, and other fantastic attractions will be hosting special events in February, including free days, limited-time exhibits, behind-the-scenes tours, virtual exhibits, and much more. Check out the list of participating museums and plan your visit!

San Diego Restaurant Week (April 3 – 10)

Dining out is a singular pleasure, especially in a melting pot “foodie” city like San Diego! More than 130 eateries will be participating in April’s San Diego Restaurant Week, which will feature specials, discounts, and uniquely event-specific menu items that you simply can’t enjoy at any other time on the calendar. It’s been a tough few years for the area’s restaurateurs, so there’s no better time to get out there and enjoy some great taste!

San Diego County Fair (June 8 – July 4)

San Diego’s favorite occasion for home-grown fun returns to the Del Mar Fairgrounds after taking a break in ‘21. Visitors can look forward to all of the food, agricultural displays, rides, entertainment, animal exhibits, vendors, and more that they’ve come to love from the region’s biggest and best county fair. So bring your sense of adventure, pack some sunscreen, and get ready to have a fantastic time at the fair once again.

San Diego Pride (July 9 – 17)

After two years of being a mostly virtual event, San Diego Pride will be returning in a big way for 2022. The city’s largest LGBTQIA+ cultural celebration will once again feature live events, such as The Spirit of Stonewall Rally kick-off gathering, femme-centric She Fest, faith-focused Light Up the Cathedral, and — of course — the massive Pride Parade, the region’s largest civic event. Don’t miss your chance to head out, be out, and live it up!

San Diego Comic-Con (July)

The world’s biggest and best convention of comics culture returns to the San Diego Convention Center in 2022 (exact dates TBA). The reputation of Comic-Con precedes it for fans of pop culture. For the uninitiated, Comic-Con is a massive event that draws more than 135,000 attendees every year, all of whom are there to celebrate the huge impact that all things superhero, sci-fi, fantasy, and magic have had on our collective consciousness. Expect elaborate costumes, board-game tournaments, video games, panel discussions, writers, artists, meet-and-greets, and — of course — comics galore.

KAABOO Food and Music Festival (September)

San Diego’s favorite music festival had to take a break in 2021, but this year will see its triumphant return. Petco Park will once again play host to the festival, which features loads of amazing local food, an energetic atmosphere, and more music than you can shake a (drum)stick at. The schedule is still being finalized for this year’s lineup, but headliners in years past have included Jimmy Buffett, Tom Petty, Katy Perry, and Foo Fighters, so you know you’ll be in for a full day of feeling the beat of the city.
