Find Your Fun in San Diego

In our previous post, we talked about the best ways to relax in and around ”’America’s Finest City”. So we thought we’d offer a bit of a counterpoint in this post. Specifically, how to have the absolute time of your life while you’re here! So if you’re over the unwinding and have had it with the kicking back, then this one’s for you. Read on for some of our favorite ways to have fun in San Diego

Go Parasailing

Be honest — you’ve always wanted to try it. And right here is the perfect place to give it a go! When you’re ready to join the ranks of the daredevils, head over to San Diego Parasailing Adventures. Their crew of parasailing pros will get you up to speed, then get you up in the air. Not only is parasailing in San Diego safe, fun, and an amazing experience, but it’s great for back-home bragging rights. Not to mention that the view is fantastic from up there in the sky! We also recommend swinging by the Torrey Pines Gliderport — one of the most popular spots in the country for taking to the skies.

Take a Dive

As beautiful as San Diego is above water, there’s an impressive underwater world just waiting to be explored. If you want to experience something you can’t do every day, unleash your inner explorer and head out for a scuba or snorkeling adventure at Matlahuayl State Marine Reserve. Divers here will discover kelp forests, and countless species of marine life (such as seals, sea lions, clams, and even horn sharks). You’ll also want to check out popular dive zones like Marine Room Beach, and La Jolla Cove. Plus, Don’t forget about Wreck Alley, a site located off the coast of Mission Beach that’s home to eight ships ready for sunken-ship exploration!

Ride The Tallest, Fastest Coaster on the West Coast

SeaWorld San Diego has delighted generations of visitors with its entertaining and educational up-close marine-life exhibits of playful seals, orcas, dolphins, and more. Expect incredible exhibitions of all kinds when you make a day of this fantastic park, as well as amazing thrill rides. On that note, you won’t want to pass up world-class white-knucklers like The Emperor, or the new Arctic Rescue Coaster, where riders hop aboard a snowmobile-style seat, and hang on through a serious speed run.

Zoom on a Zipline

There might be more efficient ways to get from point A to point B than ziplining, but there aren’t many that are more fun. For the uninitiated, ziplining involves securing yourself in a harness, attaching your support to a high-tension angled cable, and traversing a mid-air gap via the power of gravity. San Diego has lots of places to go zipping, but La Jolla Zip Zoom Ziplining is among the best. Their experienced guides will have you zipping in zero time!

Do the Dipper

If you’re still looking to get your coaster itch scratched after your trip to SeaWorld, you’re in luck. Belmont Park is a timeless boardwalk-style waterfront rides-and-games destination located in picturesque Mission Beach, and it features a can’t-miss experience: the Giant Dipper. The Dipper is a classic wooden coaster with more twists and turns than a mystery novel, and it’s a bucket-lister for any coaster enthusiast. Belmont Park is also home to mini-golf, rock climbing, and classic oceanside dining. Not to mention that it’s all right on the beach, which is always a great way to spend a day around here.

Catch a Padres Game

San Diego is home to Major League Baseball’s Padres — and the 2023 season is already shaping up to be one of their best yet. Checking out a game at Petco Park is always an enjoyable way to spend the day enjoying America’s pastime. And speaking of Petco, the Padres’ home field was recently named the #1 stadium in the league for the second year in a row. So grab your seat and a bag of peanuts, and watch the team swing for the fences! Check out the “How to Enjoy a San Diego Padres Game” post from our sister hotel Days Inn San Diego Hotel Circle for insider tips on how to get the most out of your day at the ol’ ball game.

Visit the San Diego County Fair

Nothing says summer in the city like the return of the San Diego County Fair. With tasty treats, exciting rides, and plenty of entertainment options, the county fair is a great way to experience the best of San Diego. The theme of this year’s fair is “Get Out There”, encouraging everyone to enjoy the great outdoors. When you go, expect amazing food, incredible exhibits, pulse-pounding thrill rides, and world-class live entertainment. This year’s mainstage lineup includes music from Train, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Switchfoot, Boyz II Men, Alabama, and comedy from Kevin Hart.

Now in its 42nd year, Fiesta del Sol (May 20–21) has become one of California’s favorite events. This non-stop celebration of all things music is happening at Fletcher Park in Solana Beach, and will feature entertainment from acts like The English Beat. Fabba Show, Betamaxx, Iya Terra, and Ginger Roots and the Protectors over its two-day run. Of course, visitors can also expect incredible food, cold drinks, games and unique vendors — there really is no other occasion that shows off San Diego’s laid back vibes quite as well as this event.
