What to Eat, Ride, and See at the San Diego County Fair

The San Diego County Fair is almost back, and that means summer is just around the corner. Showcasing a new theme every year, the 2019 theme of The Wonderful World of Oz won’t disappoint. With 370 acres, 1,879 concerts, and 4,187 attractions, the fair is sure to be an “Oz-some” time! Thankfully, the fair runs for just over two months, meaning you’ll have plenty of chances to take advantage of everything on offer. Check out our rundown below of the fair’s highlights, and figure out how you’re going to make the most of this spectacular summer event. Just be sure to keep an eye out for the Wicked Witch of the West!

Concerts

Live entertainment is one of the fair’s biggest attractions, and you can enjoy great music and stand-up comedy at Del Mar Fairground’s outdoor concert venue almost every night. The calendar features a tempting schedule of A-list performers, including Jim Gaffigan, Toby Keith, Jeff Dunham, and Trace Adkins, so grab your tickets while you still can.

Food

Visiting the fair means getting to enjoy all the classic treats, and the San Diego Fair definitely won’t disappoint. Snack on funnel cakes, turkey legs, corn dogs, cotton candy, and all the other carnival fare you’re dreaming of. If you feel like sitting down to a meal, that’s possible too – the fair features a wide variety of eateries, including Paddock Tavern, 17 Hands Restaurant and Cantina, Surfside Race Place, and more.

Rides

No county fair is complete without rides, and the San Diego Fair has plenty to get your heart racing. Take a ride on High Voltage or the Giant Wheel, or enjoy something more low-key, such as the Bumper Cars or Dizzy Dragon Spinners. The fair offers rides for all ages and all ages and all levels of thrill-seekers.

Competitive Exhibits

San Diego County Fair is known for its various competitive exhibits, and we highly recommend checking them out to enjoy some classic fair entertainment. The annual Paul Ecke Jr. Flower Show is the most well known, showcasing beautiful blooms and vibrant bouquets. And when you’ve seen your fair share of flowers, head over to the Livestock Breed Show to check out the sheep, cows, rabbits, pigs, and more.

Located 40 minutes from Humphreys Half Moon Inn, the San Diego County Fair is a perfect way to spend a summer day. Afterall, “There’s no place like the Fair”.
