Planning a Day Of Fun at Belmont Park San Diego

Remember being a kid and heading to the county fair? The smell of popcorn was in the air, the promise of thrill rides got your blood moving, and if you were lucky, you might even have good luck on the midway and leave with a prize. Lucky for you, there’s a classic boardwalk-style amusement park right here in Mission Beach that brings back every one of those happy memories. Belmont Park San Diego is a great place to have some good old-fashioned summertime fun in the sun, and right on the beach to boot. Not only is Belmont only a few minutes away from Humphreys, admission is totally free! Here’s what you can look forward to when you go!

A Rich History

A Rich History of Belmont Park San Diego

A lot of parks try to emulate the timeless feel of yesterday’s beach boardwalks, but Belmont Park has a fun-filled past that stretches back nearly a century. Sugar baron John D. Spreckels (who was also behind Balboa Park’s famous organ pavilion) first broke ground on the “Mission Beach Entertainment Center” in 1925. The Great Dipper was built not long afterward. In the 100 years since, Belmont Park has brought joy to generations.

Pulse-Pounding Thrill Rides

One of the most compelling reasons to head to an amusement park has always been the rides. And Belmont Park truly delivers when it comes to getting the adrenaline going! Whether you’re spinning through the air on the Octotron, free-falling on the Zero Gravity, or white-knuckling every twist and turn of the legendary Great Dipper coaster, you’ll find no end of ways to indulge your inner daredevil when you make a day out of your visit.

Enjoy Endless Activities

Once your hair is well and truly standing on end from a few spins on the park’s many rides, you’ll find even more to explore. Why not try a few rounds of Mini-Golf? Or see how high you can reach on the Rock Wall? Or maybe you want to zap your friends in the Laser Tag arena, lap them on the Go-Kart Track, or experience a motion-enhanced multimedia adventure into the unknown at the 7 Dimensions of Xanadu Theater? The choice is yours!

Try Your Luck on the Midway

A day at Belmont Park just isn’t complete unless you leave with a trophy as a souvenir. So step right up and try your luck at the midway’s skill games! The High Striker lets you test your strength against gravity to ring the bell. Balloon Burst gives players a chance to refine their aim, and their darts technique. Tub Toss requires a keen eye and a steady hand. No matter which you play, keep your eyes on the prize, and go for the big one!

Grab a Bite

Braving the Great Dipper, winning a prize, and earning bragging rights at Laser Tag is a great way to work up an appetite. Thankfully, Belmont Park is home to some incredible places to beat back the hunger pangs. Whether you want some grab-and-go goodies at El Jefe Tacos, Hot Dog on a Stick or Belmonty’s Burgers, or you’re more in the mood for some sit-down service at local institutions Draft Mission Beach, Beach House or Cannonball (which boasts the largest rooftop deck in the city), you won’t leave hungry.

Snag Some Souvenirs

Maybe you forgot your sunglasses. Perhaps you ran out of sunscreen at a crucial moment. Or, maybe you’re just looking for a fun memento to commemorate your day out. The shops of Belmont Park have your back. From keychains to T-shirts, gifts to fitness gear, skateboards to surf essentials, you’ll find what you’re looking for here.
