Our favorite color in March is green, for St. Patrick's Day. The holiday falls on Friday, March 17 this year, and San Diego has fun St. Patrick's Day events to celebrate throughout the weekend and the month. Here's our guide to finding the Irish inside you this holiday.
Celebrate at the St. Patrick's Day Parade and Irish Festival on March 11. Taking place at Balboa Park, the event features a parade with marching bands and drill teams, entertainment, and Celtic Village. There's Irish food, Irish dancing, Irish crafts, a beer garden, and special events for kids.
Party in the center of San Diego's nightlife hub, the Gaslamp District. There are multiple fun options spanning the weekend. The annual Shamrock in the Gaslamp rolls out green astroturf for a block party with three stages and bar and restaurant specials featuring Irish whiskey and green beer. Turn Irish 4 a Day and gain admission to 25 parties in the Gaslamp from 4pm to 2am on Friday and Saturday. The St. Patrick's Day Pub Crawl is another 2-day party option that lasts from 2pm to 2am.
If you'd rather mark the holiday with a healthy event, consider signing up for the St. Patrick's Day Half Marathon on March 5. Race options include the half marathon, a 5K walk/run, and a fun run for everyone. There's also a Tribes and Clans competition for kids and adults that adds a fun workout and obstacle course to the race. After crossing the finish line, celebrate your great times at the EC Craft Beer Invitational.
After the race, head back to Humphreys Half Moon Inn. Our Shelter Island location is just minutes from all the parties, but also a quiet retreat when the night is over. Stay with us to be near everything you want to see and do in San Diego.
