San Diego is a water-oriented city, and we're a great destination for a fishing vacation. Whether you want to drop a line in from a pier, cruise out to sea for a salt water catch, or head to a freshwater lake, you'll be sure to catch a big one.
The Pacific Ocean laps our shores. You'll find everything from yellowfin, bluefin, albacore, mahi mahi, and more off shore, or catch halibut, rockfish, and other species inshore. There are plenty of charter fishing options to head out for a morning, afternoon, or full day excursion. You can even take an extended fishing trip into Mexican waters.
With dozens of stocked lakes and reservoirs, San Diego is a freshwater fisher's dream. We're known for our largemouth bass, but you'll also hook trout, catfish, carp, and other lake swimmers. There are boat rentals available at larger lakes.
You don't even have to get into a boat to fish in San Diego; just drop a line off a pier. You might catch several varieties of bass, leopard sharks, halibut, or more. Some of our piers have bait and tackle shops, so you don't have to add yours to your luggage.
