San Diego is a maritime city that knows how to make the most of its waterfront. Stroll along the Embarcadero to visit some of our major attractions, including the USS Midway Museum and the Maritime Museum of San Diego.
During the holiday season, we even bring festive lights out onto the water. The San Diego Bay Parade of Lights features more than 80 illuminated boats cruising San Diego Bay on December 11 and December 18. This year, the boats will be decorated for the theme, "It Began with a Roar - San Diego Zoo Celebrates 100 Years."
The event starts as darkness falls, at 5pm, and the boats follow a path that leads them from Shelter Island past the Embarcadero, Seaport Village, and Cesar Chavez Park before ending on Coronado. You can enjoy the lights from anywhere along the route, including from directly across the street from Humphreys! Enjoy the parade, and then take a walk under the stars to Humphreys Restaurant to have a festive holiday meal.
Don't miss the chance to get out on the water during daylight to enjoy the beautiful views of our city. You can enjoy a quick sail on the ferry to Coronado or enjoy a longer Hornblower cruise that takes in views of the skyline or searches for whales. A dinner cruise lets you enjoy the illuminated skyline.
Half Moon Inn on Shelter Island is an ideal base for experiencing the San Diego Bay Parade of Lights plus all the rest of San Diego's wonderful attractions. You'll have easy access to events at holiday time and the rest of the year, or can stay at the resort and retreat from the hubbub of the world outside. With tropical grounds, just five minutes from the airport, Half Moon Inn is both accessible and secluded.
