Whether you want gentle scares and trick-or-treating for the kids or grownup terrors that will get your heart pounding, you'll find Halloween adventures for all in San Diego. Here's where to go to find the fun frights. Be sure to check the event links for schedule and ticket details.
Gentle Scares for Kids
Both SeaWorld and LegoLand have special events throughout the month to mark the holiday. At SeaWorld, it's the Halloween Spooktacular featuring Halloween-themed shows, dance parties, and trick-or-treating. LegoLand features Brick-or-Treat Party Nights, where there'll be hands-on holiday crafts along with trick-or-treating and special entertainment.
Watch the ghouls and goblins come out from hiding at the BOO! Parade; there'll be floats, music, and entertainment. Birch Aquarium becomes the Haunted Aquarium, with monsters, scary real Frankensquid and skeleton shrimp, plus seaweed slime. Balboa Park's Halloween Family Day offers costume contests, craft activities, and more.
Terrifying Fun for Grownups
Bigger kids and grownups will want to linger after dark in the park to explore the Haunted Trail of Balboa Park. Make a reservation to explore the Haunted Hotel in the historic Gaslamp Quarter, considered one of the best haunted rooms in the country.
The Gaslamp is also home to the San Diego Zombie Crawl and the San Diego Monster Bash. In the Zombie Crawl, you'll gain admission to 25 venues in the Gaslamp for drinks and entertainment. The Monster Bash sprawls over eight blocks, with five themed stages of entertainment. There's also a pre-event bar crawl and a post-event afterparty, so the Halloween fun is nonstop.
