Come to San Diego for the Fourth of July! The sky is lit with brilliant California sunshine during the day and spectacular fireworks at night. Here's where to enjoy this All-American holiday near Humphreys Half Moon Inn.
County fairs are All American, too, so head to the San Diego County Fair, the biggest in the country. July 4th is its final day and the fair will be at peak levels of fun. Activities at the fair on the Fourth include everything from fiber spinning to goat milking and a turkey stampede. Test your talent in the pie eating or watermelon seed-spitting contests. There are magicians, hypnotists, and musicians including a Kiss tribute and a marine band. Everyone will find fun at the fair, and the day ends with fireworks.
If you'd rather spend the Fourth soaking up the sun rather than soaking up Americana, two great options for spending the day in the sunshine are Balboa Park and San Diego's beaches. In Balboa Park, you can stroll beneath the palm trees and through the gardens, tackle trails by foot or bike, or even roam the grounds of the San Diego Zoo.
Claim your spot on the sand for a day at the beach. All of San Diego's beaches are beautiful, with La Jolla's cliffside ocean views especially striking. Ocean Beach is perfect if you want to spend the whole day at the beach. You won't have to leave your blanket to see fireworks, because they'll be shot off from OB Pier at 9pm.
Another great fireworks option is the Big Bay Boom, the largest fireworks display in San Diego. It's too big to contain in one location, with fireworks simultaneously rocketing up from Shelter Island, the Embarcadero, Seaport Village, and Coronado.
Humpreys Half Moon Inn is on Shelter Island, so you don't even have to leave the hotel property to see them. Come back from your day at the fair, in the park, or on the beach to a great dinner in our restaurant, and then stroll along the water to enjoy the nighttime show.
