Start December 2017 with fun in the park when the 40th annual Balboa Park December Nights event takes place 12/1-2 with free museum admission and entertainment. This is the biggest free event in San Diego all year! A reader poll in USA Today a couple of years ago rated it in the top 5 holiday festivals in the country.
So spend your morning and early afternoon exploring the many attractions in San Diego and then head to the park for fun as afternoon turns into evening. Friday night's event starts at 3pm and runs to 11pm; Saturday starts at noon and also runs to 11pm.
One of the big attractions of this event is the chance to explore Balboa Park's museums for free after dark (5pm-9pm). Balboa Park is home to some of San Diego's most popular museums, including the San Diego Air & Space Museum, the San Diego Museum of Art, and the San Diego Natural History Museum.
The entire park, trees, buildings, and plazas, will be lit up in holiday lights. There'll be great food trucks and plenty of ways to have fun, including fitness challenges. An international marketplace offers more food plus great holiday shopping; there are more unique gifts in the museum stores. And local talent takes to more than 15 stages throughout the park, putting on dance, music, and other performances. Come see the San Diego Junior Theatre and San Diego Civic Youth Ballet show off their skills.
Spend the night having fun in the park and then return to nearby Humphreys Half Moon Inn. There's plenty of room for your packages and you're sure to have a good night's sleep in our comfortable rooms and suites.
