Thoroughbreds compete in the Breeders' Cup World Championship at Del Mar in San Diego Nov 3-4. There are nearly two dozen races at the event over the two days and the total purse is $28 million! Watch heart-pounding action as three year old horses race around the 1-1/4 mile dirt track and enjoy festival fun. This is the first time the event's being held here, and special events mean the fun will last much longer than the race.
Admission to the Breeders' Cup includes the Taste of Breeders' Cup foodie event. More than 20 different local chefs will offer samples of their best bites. Choose from specially crafted menus and enjoy dining picnic-style. Video screens will make sure you don't miss any of the race action.
The Breeders' Cup Festival starts October 28 and lasts 'til November 4. Special events include a beach fun run on 10/28 and the Bash at the Beach Party on Nov 3, with music, food, and an auction of race memorabilia. Explore the San Diego area searching for the life-size statues that comprise the Art of the Horse Exhibit.
The Breeders' Cup moves to a different racetrack every year, so be sure to come to see it in San Diego this year! There are lots of permanent attractions in San Diego, though, waiting for you whenever you come: Balboa Park and its museums, Sea World, the San Diego Zoo, and the historic Gaslamp and Old Town neighborhoods. Humphreys Half Moon Inn is near all these sites and is a great base for a visit to San Diego. Click here to book your stay!
