Spend the last weekend of summer in San Diego, where you'll find great special events over Labor Day weekend. Here are just some of the ways to have fun while the days are still long:
• Nighttime Zoo at the San Diego Zoo. There's more to enjoy at the San Diego Zoo after dark. The new Africa Rocks exhibits opened this summer, and there are performances of traditional African music and dance at the African Village through the afternoon into evening. Stilt walkers and the Jambo parade carry on the African flavor. There's other great fun, too, with puppetry, dancers, 4D movies, and more. And of course, all the animals!
• Festival of Sail. Celebrate the arrival of tall ships in the Parade of Sail on August 31, then head to the Maritime Museum to enjoy the Festival of Sale through Sept 4. The street fair is free and open to everyone; buy a festival ticket for entry to the visiting ships and the museum's own vessels. Sign up to take part in a cannon battle or a cruise.
• Padres Baseball. There are five games at Petco Park over the holiday weekend, with four against the LA Dodgers (Friday night, two games Saturday, and a game Sunday), and versus the St Louis Cardinals on Monday. Check the special events, including a party and post-game fireworks, and head out to the ballpark.
• Harbor cruises are a great way to enjoy San Diego's beautiful bay. The Labor Day BBQ brunch cruise takes BBQ up a notch with champagne, plus a harbor tour and spectacular views of the San Diego skyline.
Labor Day weekend is also great for simply relaxing before the lazy days of summer fade and the intensity of work resumes. You can head just a few minutes from our hotel to nearby Ocean Beach, to play in the sand and ocean for the day. Or simply come lounge by the pool at Humphreys Half Moon Inn or stroll our waterfront paths. You don't have to go far for entertainment, with our music club presenting great live shows. What a great way to say goodbye to summer. Click here to make your reservation.
